It is with great sadness the directors of Uniscan announce that the company’s founder Tom Morris has passed away.
Tom set up Uniscan in 1983. In doing so, Tom revolutionised the walker market and with it the independence of thousands of people in the U.K. and overseas.
In his younger days, Tom was a promising footballer and during his National Service represented his regiment all the way to the overseas cup final that took place in Germany. Tom found this natural ability had many advantages whilst in the army including ensuring he could be excused from certain activities that weren’t always to his liking!
As Uniscan grew Tom was the first to admit that while the company had to embrace technology, he was never a big fan. In fact he never used a computer and would have been happy using a traditional day book to record everything….often to the amusement of sons Geoff and Paul. Tom did have a mobile phone but there was no guarantee he would switch it on, let alone use it!
Tom leaves behind his Wife Betty, sons Geoff and Paul, their wives Tracey and Ruth and 5 grand children.
As a mark of respect, Uniscan will be closed on Friday 31st for Tom’s funeral that will be taking place at Basildon and District Crematorium, Church Road, Basildon, SS13 2HG at 12.40. All friends and acquaintances are welcome.
Donations can be made to St Lukes Hospice, Basildon via T Cribb & Sons, Funeral Directors, 3, The Broadway, High Road, Pitsea, Basildon, Essex SS13 3AR. T: 01268 559000
