GL 20th picApril 1 marked 20 years since lift engineer Steve Wakefield took charge of his own independent company, dedicated to helping disabled, frail and vulnerable people remain independent in their own homes.

Clevedon-based Dolphin Lifts Western Ltd supplies and maintains a comprehensive range of mobility access equipment from many of the leading manufacturers to meet the requirements of its thousands of customers across the south west of England.

From its purpose built 4,000sq ft office and warehouse facility just off the M5, the company boasts multiple tenders to supply and maintain products for a wealth of local authorities, housing associations and charities across Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire, including Bristol City Council, South Somerset District Council, Aster Living, Curo Group and The Abbeyfield Society.

Steve Wakefield commented: “I’m very proud to see the company still going strong after so many years, and even prouder that we are still family-run. We have seen our way through some tough times and a lot of competition and I believe our commitment to our customers above all else has seen us go from strength to strength. I believe this success is also down to our refusal to employ hard sales techniques. Younger son Nick, who is co-director with his brother Tom, added: “Our father has given us a very stable base to build upon and we are delighted to still have his expertise in the industry at hand. The past few years have seen our biggest period of growth and we look forward to chalking up many more milestones in the years to come.”

Today the company is run by brothers Tom and Nick Wakefield, who are joint directors, and Nick’s wife Stacy, who manages the accounts. Moving forward, it is the company’s aim to continue improving its customer service by making everything just that little bit simpler.
